I was working on a commission in the neighborhood but the light wasn’t right. Stumbled into this hidden-away part of the cove north of the bridge and scrambled to catch the sun streaming in through an opening in the trees, lighting up just that one section - Maples on fire! Was able to reduce it to a little 5x7 as well (shown below and now in my 5x7 collection) with my headlamp on as I watched the light disappear altogether. The fall colors are not really “catchable” without bordering on gaudy and cheap in paint - but are so worth the effort. Much like the splashy sunsets. Is fun to try and catch a corner of one. When not painting I sometimes reflect on the futility of it all - and the lack of utility to others. When painting, there seems to be no more important thing to be doing.
