This is essentially my back yard. It was a salt marsh hay field farmed by the Leetes until the 50’s. The sluice gate is now permanently open and it is alive with astounding populations of visiting and local birds and wildlife. The sounds and sights are extraordinary. I view it in every imaginable light. Never, ever get tired of it. Love it so much. But I don’t paint it very often. And when I do, I rarely satisfy myself. On this day I went around to the north and caught a rare moment. Went after the very simple elegance of it. So quiet. I live on the West side of the marsh, right hand side of this painting, and I know how very lucky I am to be there.
